More Quilt Diva-ing

marie diva Marie has been able to sneak in some "Diva" quilting time and was able to get her diva mostly together and fused to the background. It looks fun and makes me smile. When our diva get this point, we are keeping them in seclusion so we can embelish them without the other Divas knowing what we are doing. kathy's diva suitcase I haven't been as diligent so this is what I have gotten done. My suitcase makes me smile, because I am a motorcycle mama as well. Jennifer left us without me getting a picture, she is about a step ahead of me. Jennifer, has gotten a couple of other projects done since our first diva session. Including the first block of a new block of the month that we are starting in June.

Ode to a mammogram ~unknown author

For years and years they told me,
Be careful of your breasts.
Don't ever squeeze or bruise them,
and give them monthly tests.

So I heeded all their warnings,
and protected them by law...
Guarded them very carefully,
and always wore a bra.

After 30 years of careful care,
The doctor found a lump.
He ordered up a mammogram,
to look inside that clump.

Stand up very close, she said
as she got my t*t in line.
And tell me when it hurts, she said
Ah yes, there, that's just fine!

She stepped upon a pedal...
I could not believe my eyes!
A plastic plate was pressing down...
My boob was in a vice!

My skin was stretched-n-stretched
From way up by my chin,
And my poor t*t was being squashed
to Swedish pancake thin!

Excruciating pain I felt.
Within it's vice-like grip.
A prisoner in this vicious thing,
My poor defenseless t*t!

Take a deep breath, she said to me.
Who does she think she's kidding?
My chest is smashed in her machine,
I can't breathe, woozy I'm getting!

There, that was good, I heard her say
As the room was slowly swaying.
Now let's get the other one
Lord, have mercy, I was praying!

It squeezed me from the up and down.
It squeezed me from both sides.
I'll bet she's never had this done
to her tender little hide!

If I had no problem when I came in,
I surely have one now....
If there had been a cyst in there,
it would have popped, ker-pow!

This machine was made by man,
Of this I have no doubt..
. I'd like to get his b_ll's in there,
For months he'd go without!

As summer gets closer I get a new do.

april302009-003 I thought it was time for a new summer do. So, I went to Modish and saw Lauren. She cut it pretty short and also gave me some bangs (which I haven't had in a long time) I like it. Now, if she could just make me a little taller and younger

Taking a chance Drew does not read my blog.

drew-quilt-003 I am taking a chance that Drew does not read my blog. I have been working on a "Sudoku" quilt for him. The quilt is nine, nine patch blocks. Where none of the colors repeat in any of the rows or nine patches. It was fun to do. Drew picked the colors and I did the rest. All it needs is the binding and then it can be a hug from his mom in his new home in Nashville. He will be leaving in a couple of weeks. He is going to go and live with some friends and eventually go to school for music engineering. I am happy that he has a plan and is moving on with his life, but I am sad that he is going to be living 6 hours away.

The back is almost a pretty as the front. I love this fabric and am happy I got to use it on the back of his quilt.

Look what Robert got finished while I was in South Carolina.

TA DAH! Just in time for the loft tours THIS weekend.

A warm hug for a tough day.

granny's quilt I took a self defense class on Saturday morning. Though, it was a good thing to do, it was a tough and emotional experience that brought up lots of feelings. I left the class and went to South Carolina to be with my sister. Saturday was her birthday, and she had to have surgery on Friday. I took this quilt with me. My grandmother had made it. Six or so years ago, before I owned the HQ I had several of her quilts sent off to be quilted. I finished binding three out of four of them, and gave them to my mom, sister and brother. Mine however never got finished. As a gift to me Marie and I picked out the binding fabric, she made the binding and sewed it to the front. I took it with me to South Carolina and worked on it as I sat in my sister's hospital room and then slept under it on Saturday night. It was like a warm hug on a what been a tough day, and for that I am thankful.
My sister is home and recovering well.

Quilt Diva-ing at the shop.

After the shop was closed on Friday Marie, Jennifer and I worked on our "Quilt Diva" quilts and had a blast!

That didn't take long.

gray thread I was quilting away and ran out of bobbin thread. When I looked up I noticed that I had just a few strands of top stitching thread left as well. This is a gray thread that I have used quite a bit since the shop opened. It is good to quilt with as it reflects the color of the fabric it is quilting through. It didn't take long for me to use 3,280 yards of this fine thread. That's not even counting the lavander, pink, putty and verigated threads I have also been quilting with!

Robert continues to work on the ceiling.

new ceiling
Robert, continues to get some work done on the ceiling. It is amazing to me what a difference it makes. It seems I had gotten used to the drywall being up there. This is second to last major project on the apartment. It looks great honey, thanks!

Grace Like Rain.

This song has been stuck in my head and heart the last couple days. But I couldn't find it, because I didn't know the title or the artist. So, this morning when I was listening to Pandora Satelite Radio....it came on and I was able to look it up.

Thanks, Lord.

More work getting done on the apartment....

Here's what Robert worked on today. The ceiling in the kitchen. We wanted to put tin up in the kitchen, but tin is very pricey, so we opted for wood. It looks great, I love it, and can't wait to see it when it is finished!

My Happy Place.........

So, sometimes we quilters and lovers of fabric just need to be in a quilt shop where we feel loved and welcomed and can touch some fabrics.......It is our "happy place." Well Jennifer found these cups and so I thought I would take some pictures of our happy place.

I will admit I was just happier after going around the shop and taking these pictures.

Beach Diva Fabric!

We got in some "Beach Diva Fabric" today. It is so much fun. Marie and Sami picked out some of it to make Miranda Day Bags in a beach theme. Then Mary came in and did the same thing. I can't wait to see them when they are done!
We displayed it with some of the great fabrics they picked. It's beginning to feel like summer!

Yea, my new iphone!

So, Robert gave me a gift certificate for an iphone for Christmas. I waited until this weekend to redeem it. Megan was ready to go from a palm and a phone to just one thing. And, my current phone service contract was up so off to ATT&T we went.
However, things did not go as smooth as I thought it would, because you cannot redeem the apple gift card accept at an apple store. Well several phone calls to apple later Megan and i both have iphones and are happy.
Merry Christmas to me.

The Blue and White fabric is in....

and a lot of it has gone flying out of the shop!
This is the Cambridge Square Collection. I ordered it in the blue and white and the tan and brown. It is a lovely collection.

It is also Quest for a Cure, which is great. I had a woman come in and buy 3 yard from each of the blue bolts and the all of the big blue and white floral. Yea! I can't wait to see what she does with it!

Getting ready for the Loft tours.

So, we are part of the downtown loft tours on May 1st and 2nd. and we had an opportunity to be in Augusta Magazine. Robert took a day off from the hospital and I took a day off from MCG and the shop to clean and sort and get some stuff done around our house. Here are the results. Scarfs hung on our windows, to finish them off and a clean bedroom.

Quilts hung by my sewing machine...

And the desk and computer moved into the spare bedroom.
*sigh*
We still have some stuff to do, but this gave us a kick in the bumm to at least get started.

A Weekend of quilting.

Beth came this weekend and we quilted three quilts that she had pieced. They were lots of fun to quilt.
This one is a beautiful picture quilt of Katelyn.

This one is a block of the month that we finished last year and are just now getting it quilted. I made her do this one in batiks and the floral one as well! hmm, i don't think she has finished the floral one.

This one in grays and black was lots of fun to quilt as well. The quilting really shows up on the back. I do love the swirl echos.

Look what we found hiding in the shop.

"Stumpy" the lizard. I think he thought maybe he was a T-rex, because if he could he would have eaten me for lunch! Little did he realize that in comparison I am the T-rex. Anyway, Stumpy was set free outside, with room to run and play.

Counting buttons.

We are participating in "Play through downtown"
It is in honor of Masters week. We have a tee that is filled with an item related to our shop. In our case buttons. The participants have to go to 9 out of 18 holes and guess how many items are in the tee. The closest to par wins some great gifts.
Here we are counting lots and lots of buttons!

Yea, for swirls.

I quilted this fun and bright quilt this week. It the woman and her daughters first project together. It is lovely and I got to quilt swirls in it. It was lots of fun!
Also note that she did prarie points on it which was a delightful touch.
